Billie Holiday & Her Orchestra - Sophisticated Lady (Verve Records 1956) | This is a jazz music piece. There is a saxophone playing a solo in the lead. A tuba is playing the bass line. There is an electric guitar strumming chords. The rhythm is being played on the ride cymbal by the acoustic drums. The instrumentals have a sophisticated feel. This piece could be playing in the background at a classy restaurant. | 2011-01-02T10:43:06Z | RoundMidnightTV | "Sophisticated Lady" is a jazz standard, composed as an instrumental in 1932 by Duke Ellington and Irving Mills, to which words were added by Mitchell Parish. The words met with approval from Ellington, who described them as "wonderful — but not entirely fitted to my original conception." That original conception was inspired by three of Ellington's grade school teachers. "They taught all winter and toured Europe in the summer. To me that spelled sophistication." Billie's accompanied by Joe Mondragon (bass), Alvin Stoller (drums), Barney Kessel (guitar), Jimmy Rowles (piano), Harry "Sweets" Edison (trumpet), and Ben Webster (Tenor Saxophone). Recorded August 18, 1956, Los Angeles. (Verve Records) They say into your early life romance came And then this heart of yours burned a flame A flame that flickered one day and died away Then with disillusion deep in your eyes You learned that fools in love soon grow wise The years have changed you somehow I see you now Smoking, drinking, never thinking Of tomorrow, nonchalant Diamonds shining, dancing, dining With some man in a restaurant Is that all you really want? No, sophisticated lady I know, you miss the love you lost long ago And when nobody is nigh [near] you cry Smoking, drinking, never thinking Of tomorrow, nonchalant Diamonds shining, dancing, dining With some man in a restaurant Is that all you really want? No, sophisticated lady I know, you miss the love you lost long ago And when nobody is nigh [near] you cry Sophisticated lady you cry | ["Brass instrument", "Saxophone"] | ["jazz", "tuba", "saxophone", "electric guitar", "acoustic drums", "melancholic", "sophisticated"] | 9 | 5r4jLwjj_Ik | 698
Marilyn Monroe in Korea | This audio contains a jazz composition with a saxophone taking the lead-melody supported by a string section, a e-bass and a piano playing some notes along in a higher pitch. She performed ten shows in four days, in front of audiences that totaled more than 100,000 soldiers and marines. Later Monroe recalled that the trip "was the best thing that ever happened to me. I never felt like a star before in my heart. It was so wonderful to look down and see a fellow smiling at me." | ["Brass instrument", "Saxophone"] | ["jazz", "strings", "saxophone", "e-bass", "piano", "slow tempo", "melancholic"] | 6 | ZHsAU90h8oc | 3357
Lana Del Rey - Terrence Loves You (Official Audio) | The song sounds orchestrated. There is a string section playing swells and rising tremolos along to an acoustic piano playing minor chords. A cello is playing long low notes on top of that a saxophone is playing two notes to end the phrase. A deep and far percussive hit comes in every fourth count. The female singer's voice sounds sensitive and melancholic. There are female backing voices singing along. The whole composition is full of big reverb. This song may be playing at the end of a sad movie. | 2015-08-21T07:00:00Z | LanaDelReyVEVO | Lana Del Rey - Terrence Loves You (Official Audio) Sign up for updates: http://smarturl.it/LanaDelRey.News Follow Lana Del Rey: http://www.instagram.com/lanadelrey http://www.facebook.com/lanadelrey http://www.twitter.com/lanadelrey http://lanadelrey.tumblr.com http://www.lanadelrey.com Lana Del Rey - Terrence Loves You (Lyrics) You are what you are I don't matter to anyone But Hollywood legends Will never grow old And all of what's hidden Well, it will never grow cold But I lost myself when I lost you But I still got jazz when I've got those blues And I lost myself when I lost you And I still get trashed, darling, when I hear your tunes But you are who you are I won't change you for anything For when you are crazy I'll let you be bad I'll never dare change thee To what you are not But I lost myself when I lost you But I still got jazz when I've got those blues I lost myself and I lost you too And I still get trashed, baby, when I hear your tunes I put the radio on, hold you tight in my mind Isn’t strange that you’re not here with me I’m putting all the lights on and the television Trying to transmit, can you hear me? Ground control to Major Tom Can you hear me all night long? Ground control to Major Tom Well, I lost myself when I lost you But I still got jazz when I've got the blues I lost myself and I lost you too And I still get trashed, honey, when I hear your tunes Mmmm-mmm-mmm-mmm Mmmm-mmm-mmm-mmm Mmmm Mmmm-mmm-mmm-mmm Mmmm | ["Music", "Synthetic singing"] | ["pop", "string section", "female voice singing", "reverb", "acoustic piano", "deep", "low percussive hit", "saxophone", "slow tempo", "melancholic"] | 6 | emDU4QvdwVk | 3896 |
