Understand that the vibration of the music is a direct connection to the universal reality of the flowing energy that we are!!! Learn the blues scale in the key of E. Then learn to play it in other keys. Learn the blues shuffle in the key of E and the key of A. If you are playing slide learn to tune in open D and open G. Then learn the major and minor scales in the open tunings. Listen to blues music and get the feel for it. Realize that the music is best when you FEEL IT!!! The technical stuff is nice but feeling it makes all the difference. My silly channel has all this stuff on it so feel free to search for it. My steel guitar has relatively high action but my Gibson, which I also use for slide does not. Here are some ideas for you. When sliding learn to be gentle with your touch, especially when action is not high. Always play the note directly over the fret with the slide. When you slide within a fret be accurate so that the slider stays within the fret. Lastly, practice each part of the technique by itself. Once you have a technique down then play it in conjunction with your other chords and techniques. You are practicing the techniques and THEN the songs. And Folk folks like Bob Dylan and Pete Seeger. \n\nBeginners tips\n\nThis is my take on how to learn Guitar for beginners. \nI also think these ideas relate to anything \nyou wish to learn.  \n\nStart slowly. Break down the playing into pieces. For example, tuning the guitar, Strumming, Picking, playing a scale, using a flat pick, using finger picks, riffs, licks, patterns, eventually songs. Practice each piece by itself. Then put the pieces together. \n\nGoogle Spaced repetition and use it to learn guitar and everything else. It essentially says that learning, say a scale, is better done in 20 one minute sessions than one 20 minute session. \n\nChoose your style. For example, Blues, Rock, Heavy Mental, Jazz, Folk, Country. Your Choice.\n\nGet a guitar that matches your style choice. \n\nUse the internet to get lessons in Your Style or get lessons from a real person. Listen and watch the masters of the chosen style.\n\nListen to music you love just before practicing.\n\nMAKE IT FUN. FEEL THE MUSIC and make that part of your learning process. I honestly recommend using a deep breathing technique as part of the learning process.  Breathe in through the nose and count to four. Breathe out through your mouth and count to six. Repeat. Note the feeling. Calms your mind and body and helps you focus on the job at hand. \n\nFocus your attention on the process you use and the details of your current stage.\n\nRealize that you are building muscle memory. Focus on the movement and help it become automatic. Practice air guitar, seriously, it helps develop the muscle memory.\n\nJournal your daily activity.\n\nFocus on the beat. Try open D tuning. It makes it easier.  Make it fun. It is a joy to learn and it should never be a burden!!! Count 1 2 3 4 as you pluck or pick.\n\nSing what you are playing. This can be done with the mouth or just in the brain. Singing it easily connects your mind and body to the guitar.\n\nPractice everyday or every other day, but commit to practice. Tarantella is popular in Southern Italy and one of the symbols of the Italian culture in the world.\nIn the Salento's region of Italy the bite of a locally common type of spider called \"tarantula\" was popularly believed to be highly poisonous and to lead to a hysterical condition known as Tarantism. The stated belief in the 16th and 17th centuries were that the victims needed to engage in a frenzied dance to prevent death of the disease using very rhythmic music, this kind of music was known Tarantella.\n\nITALIAN MANDOLIN Mandolins evolved from the lute family in Italy during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and the deep bowled mandolin produced particularly in Naples became a common type in the nineteenth century. The original instrument was the mandore which evolved in the fourteenth century from the lute. The first evidence of modern steel-strung mandolins is from literature regarding popular Italian players who traveled through Europe teaching and giving concerts. Notable is Signor Leone and G. B. Gervasio who traveled widely between 1750 and 1810. This, with the records gleaned from the Italian Vinaccia family of luthiers in Naples, Italy, lead some musicologists to believe that the modern steel-strung mandolin was developed in Naples by the Vinaccia family. Gennaro Vinaccia was active circa 1710 to circa 1788, and Antonio Vinaccia was active circa 1734 to circa 1796. An early extant example of a mandolin is one built by Antonio Vinaccia in 1772 which resides at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, England. Another is by Giuseppe Vinaccia built in 1763, residing at the Kenneth G. Fiske Museum of Musical Instruments in Claremont, California. The earliest extant mandolin was built in 1744 by Gaetano Vinaccia. It's very important that you practice with a metronome. Like I said in the previous video, if you don't have a metronome on, you're probably not practicing. So let's put our metronome on and we're going to pick a scale, whatever scale we're working on. For right now I'm just going to choose, just the regular E Minor scale.\n\nFingering and I'm going to start with my root on the fifth string. Okay, and then we're going to do one, two, four; one, two, four; move to the fifth fret, one three four; one three four. Okay, so that's my E natural minor scale and I'm going to put my metronome to do this slow. I'm going to put it on 70 bpm, 70 beats per minute. This is a good way to practice your scales. First we're going to go up and down, just playing quarter notes and you'll go down the same way. \n\nI't's important when you practice scales that you know how to subdivide the beat accurately. So the next time we go up and down, we're going to do eighth notes, so we're going to divide the beat in half. Okay, and we're going to do that a couple of times. Next time we play our scale we're going to do triplets, which means we're going to fit three notes in the beat. It's important that we sing this or we feel this, before we even attempt to play it. So it's going to be one, two, three; one, two, three; one, two, three; one, two three. \n\nOkay, and we do this a couple times up and down. Next step would be to do sixteenth notes. That means we place four notes inside the beat. Okay and again, if this is the first time you're doing it, make sure you can sing before you play it. Most likely, if you can't sing it to yourself, you're not going to be able to play it accurately. So one-e and a two-e, and a one, two, three, four; one, two, three, four.\n\nOkay, when you can do this at least four times on sixteenth notes up and down, then you're ready to increase the speed of your metronome. I would go up I don't know, two-four, maybe ten bpm's and do the whole thing again. Then try it with another scale and do it again. Okay, if you feel like it's getting bumpy, always bring it back down. Never practice with mistakes. The tune has several versions and at least two of them are totally different tunes.  The one played here is, I think,  by far the most common in North America and is played in the key of Am.  It is a tune of Scottish origin (perhaps derived from an air by the great Neil Gow? -- not sure about that).  \r\n\r\nThe tune in this form commemorates the battle of Culloden Moor, when, on cold spring morning in 1746 the English Army surprised and massacred a Scottish highlander army and thereby ended the Jacobite Rebellion.  In years that followed thousands of apparently completely innocent Scotts were murdered by the English general the Duke of Cumberland (aka the Butcher) to punish them and to assure no more highlander rebellions would occur.  \r\n\r\nBut there is another version of \"Cold Frosty Morning\" which is an old tyme quadrille (6/8 time? or 3/4 time?) which was played in using an altered tuning and is in the key of D. The Fiddlers Companion attributes this tune to Stephen B. Tucker of Mississippi who started fiddling in late 1860's and was recorded for the Library of Congress in 1939. I plan to research this more. And of course the bluegrass folks have a ball with it.
