I was really curious to test my first amPlug 2. Thus far I had tried the AC30 version of the predecessor generation and the amPlug Metal.\n\nAs you know, the amPlugs by Vox are great if you want to practice guitar over your headphones while still getting the feel of having your guitar connected to a real amp. So, while all my folks are watching some nonsense on TV, I can still be with them and fiddle around without annoying the hell out of them. All the device needs is a set of two AAA batteries which come with the purchase. The battery life of the amPlugs is really good to begin with, but with the new feature \u2013 which we will cover in a bit \u2013 it\u2019s now even better.  \nWith this new generation of mini headphone guitar amplifiers, Vox introduced a number or significant improvements regarding the features and functionality.\n\nFirst of all, the Vox amPlug 2 CR \u2013 as well as all other models of the second generation \u2013 comes with a jack that swivels. This allows to easily adjust the position of the device. As demonstrated in the video, with the previous version there was a limited range of mobility. This is now completely resolved.\n\nThe Vox amPlug 2 CR mini headphone amp comes with an \u201cAuto Power-Off\u201d.  So, after 30 minutes of inactivity the device powers off automatically. This is great, because now the batteries last even longer, even in the event that you forget to turn the amplug off.\n\nAnother cool feature of the Vox amPlug 2 Classic Rock, AC30 and Metal models is the FX button. By pressing the FX-button, you can chose between Chorus, Delay and Reverb. \n\nThe power-on button serves a dual purpose. Of course, this is where you turn the Vox amPlug 2 Classic Rock headphone amp on and off \u2013 however, via this button you can also add a mi-level and high-level boost for some extra punch and heaviness.\nThe rest is pretty much the same. Of course, there is the three dials for Volume, Tone and Gain. You also have an AUX input jack to connect an iPhone or an MP3 player. Other than that, the built and design is strongly aligned to the predecessor models.  The device is light, but the plastic hard-case forgives falls and other little accidents.\n\nHere are a few other questions I get all the time. Does the Vox amPlug 2 Classic Rock fit on a Strat? Yes, no problems, because the jack can be swiveled into any position of your choice. Can the Vox amPlug 2 CR connect to a guitar pedal or an amp? Sure, not an issue. It works very well, even though I typically don\u2019t do that a lot. It's very important that you practice with a metronome. Like I said in the previous video, if you don't have a metronome on, you're probably not practicing. So let's put our metronome on and we're going to pick a scale, whatever scale we're working on. For right now I'm just going to choose, just the regular E Minor scale.\n\nFingering and I'm going to start with my root on the fifth string. Okay, and then we're going to do one, two, four; one, two, four; move to the fifth fret, one three four; one three four. Okay, so that's my E natural minor scale and I'm going to put my metronome to do this slow. I'm going to put it on 70 bpm, 70 beats per minute. This is a good way to practice your scales. First we're going to go up and down, just playing quarter notes and you'll go down the same way. \n\nI't's important when you practice scales that you know how to subdivide the beat accurately. So the next time we go up and down, we're going to do eighth notes, so we're going to divide the beat in half. Okay, and we're going to do that a couple of times. Next time we play our scale we're going to do triplets, which means we're going to fit three notes in the beat. It's important that we sing this or we feel this, before we even attempt to play it. So it's going to be one, two, three; one, two, three; one, two, three; one, two three. \n\nOkay, and we do this a couple times up and down. Next step would be to do sixteenth notes. That means we place four notes inside the beat. Okay and again, if this is the first time you're doing it, make sure you can sing before you play it. Most likely, if you can't sing it to yourself, you're not going to be able to play it accurately. So one-e and a two-e, and a one, two, three, four; one, two, three, four.\n\nOkay, when you can do this at least four times on sixteenth notes up and down, then you're ready to increase the speed of your metronome. I would go up I don't know, two-four, maybe ten bpm's and do the whole thing again. Then try it with another scale and do it again. Okay, if you feel like it's getting bumpy, always bring it back down. Never practice with mistakes. This is a really pretty song to learn. I slowed down Basil's rhythm track using a program called \"MixCraft\" so I could play along easier. I have a BL 710 pickup in my S-10 ShoBud with the white fretboard. Bill's a genius guitar pickup inventor. Here's a video of him played in 2008 at a NAMM show... \r\n\r\nhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHIZMuNhF5s\r\n\r\nOn this particular Fender 400 guitar (which is as old as I am), I have 10 pedals. I actually have Basil's 3rd, 4th and 5th pedals down on 8, 9 and 10 for leg comfort. So I can use either pedals 4 and 5 or 8 and 9 to lower strings 2 and 6, respectively. That makes it a lot easier for me while playing. Pedals 1 and 2 are unchanged. I also used pedal 6 to raise string 1 by itself a whole tone, which I use in the song in a few places. Also, I only lower strings 2 and 4 a half tone, respectively, with pedals 8 and 9 because the pedals are way too tight when pressed together; so I don't lower strings 6 and 8 with pedals 8,9; but I DO lower strings 2 and 6 with pedal 4 (my C6th pedal), and strings 4 and 8 with pedal 5 (My A6th pedal) as Basil does. When I need to press both pedals, that is 4 and 5 together, I press 8 and 9. The pedal is still a bit tight, but not as bad as pressing pedals 4 and 5 (which lowered 4 and 8 also. On my ShoBud, I can lower multiple strings like butter, and it's not a concern; but the pedals are close together and that is more uncomfortable. So each guitar has its pros and cons. \r\n\r\nIdeally, it would be best to set up a more modern S-10 pedal steel with 5 pedals and 5 knees to handle this tuning. That way you can arrange everything comfortably and with ease of use if you choose a good manufacturer. Unfortunately, many steel guitar builders are cheap, others are arrogant because some big names play their brand and have become sloppy and careless in their work, and others just don't know what they're doing. I've been burned numerous times. \r\n\r\nThe A7th tuning is not for everyone. If you need tablature and for someone to explain everything to you, it's not available for this tuning simply because it's not a standard tuning used by millions of people (as is E9th and C6th). I only know two people using this A7th tuning setup, Basil Henriques and me. It's not complicated, just different. I wasn't really in the market for a Deluxe Memory Man (never have been), but when i saw this for a quarter of the price (70 u.s dollars) i figured why not? an analog delay pedal for 70? plus it has all the other bells and whistles. all clean tones in this video coming from a Line 6 Micro Spider with no effects, i'm using an ESP Eclipse II, also i play alot of \"stop on the dime\" chords of randomness (nothin fancy ladies and gents) in this video so you can hear the decay and how the delay/echo breaks up. the max delay is quite long if i may say so, i believe it's 550ms?
