I don't own an El Capistan myself, but a guy I know, Wouter (WtrPlyr), and I got together to set up this concept and compare some of the tape delays I have to the El Capistan, which is a tape delay modeler/emulator (a very nice one and the best out there, in stompbox format, that is).\r\n\r\nWe used the DigiTech JamMan Stereo and recorded a dry loop every time and routed that through the El Capistan and the RE-501 - both of them were in a true bypass looper (RJM Music Effects Gizmo).\r\n\r\nYou be the own judge of which one you prefer. I, personally, prefer the RE-501, which is one of my favorite tape delays. I prefer its natural modulation (I don't mean the Chorus, to be clear) and its reverbish character. I find the El Capistan to be a little muffled and dark, in comparison. But hey, that's my taste. I wasn't really in the market for a Deluxe Memory Man (never have been), but when i saw this for a quarter of the price (70 u.s dollars) i figured why not? an analog delay pedal for 70? plus it has all the other bells and whistles. all clean tones in this video coming from a Line 6 Micro Spider with no effects, i'm using an ESP Eclipse II, also i play alot of \"stop on the dime\" chords of randomness (nothin fancy ladies and gents) in this video so you can hear the decay and how the delay/echo breaks up. the max delay is quite long if i may say so, i believe it's 550ms?
