One of the very best drum machines ever and the last great Roland Flagship Rhythm machine along with the Roland R-8 Mk-2. Roland R-8 used a lot in Ex-Yugoslavia Pop and Rock music;-) It has excellent sounds which can be expanded by adding additional sound cards (808 and 909 cards). Great rock, electronic, ethnic and industrial style drumkits! Most of the sounds are editable - tune, decay, attack, nuance, output, etc...

But its coolest tricks are the Feel Patches which give your program a human-like groove! The sounds are ROM based samples, the R-8 has 32 note polyphony, 68 instruments, 100 patterns and 10 songs! The R-8 later became the R-8mkII with more memory and sounds. It is used by Orbital, Underworld, Jimmy Edgar, Autechre, 808 State, Dave Holmes, Fluke, Human League and The Shamen and Laza Ristovski.(Osvajaci-prvi album)

Just a quick note on the mix, because I think many may be thinking this: yes, the mix is incredibly aggressive and also over-compressed. Hearing the drum mix by itself will actually give you a very good idea what it takes to mix an additional layer of drums (mine!) into an existing and, essentially, finished song:

Kick, snare and toms, are LOUD and especially articulate. The mix is also very bright. This coupled with a slight high-pass filter on the track underneath (in this case, Try It Out by Skrillex) immediately makes my drums pop out more, and without this approach my drum mix would be drowned out by the already loudly mastered version of Try It Out. My goal is to get the track underneath as loud as possible (for full immersion) while still hearing every note I am playing on the drums. Tricky balance, and very subjective!

Stoked to make these drums-only mixes and videos available to you guys! It should make some things a bit clearer.
