You be the own judge of which one you prefer. I, personally, prefer the RE-501, which is one of my favorite tape delays. I prefer its natural modulation (I don't mean the Chorus, to be clear) and its reverbish character. I find the El Capistan to be a little muffled and dark, in comparison. But hey, that's my taste. It is a tune of Scottish origin (perhaps derived from an air by the great Neil Gow? -- not sure about that). The tune in this form commemorates the battle of Culloden Moor, when, on cold spring morning in 1746 the English Army surprised and massacred a Scottish highlander army and thereby ended the Jacobite Rebellion.
