The original orange color is one of the most vibrant we've seen.  The neck is smooth as silk and the thing practically plays itself and the Bigsby is extremely responsive and a joy to use.  The filtertrons are chimey and thick sounding and even unplugged the guitar sings loud and clear.

I have used his pedal setup for a long time, but never knew how to use the 3rd pedal that raises strings 1 and 2 a whole tone until recently. This is a really pretty song to learn. I have more information about this tuning and pedal setup on my website at steelc6th.com.

On this particular Fender 400 guitar (which is as old as I am), I have 10 pedals. I actually have Basil's 3rd, 4th and 5th pedals down on 8, 9 and 10 for leg comfort. So I can use either pedals 4 and 5 or 8 and 9 to lower strings 2 and 6, respectively. That makes it a lot easier for me while playing. Pedals 1 and 2 are unchanged. I also used pedal 6 to raise string 1 by itself a whole tone, which I use in the song in a few places. Also, I only lower strings 2 and 4 a half tone, respectively, with pedals 8 and 9 because the pedals are way too tight when pressed together; so I don't lower strings 6 and 8 with pedals 8,9; but I DO lower strings 2 and 6 with pedal 4 (my C6th pedal), and strings 4 and 8 with pedal 5 (My A6th pedal) as Basil does. When I need to press both pedals, that is 4 and 5 together, I press 8 and 9. The pedal is still a bit tight, but not as bad as pressing pedals 4 and 5 (which lowered 4 and 8 also. On my ShoBud, I can lower multiple strings like butter, and it's not a concern; but the pedals are close together and that is more uncomfortable. So each guitar has its pros and cons. 

Ideally, it would be best to set up a more modern S-10 pedal steel with 5 pedals and 5 knees to handle this tuning. That way you can arrange everything comfortably and with ease of use if you choose a good manufacturer. Unfortunately, many steel guitar builders are cheap, others are arrogant because some big names play their brand and have become sloppy and careless in their work, and others just don't know what they're doing. I've been burned numerous times. 

The A7th tuning is not for everyone. If you need tablature and for someone to explain everything to you, it's not available for this tuning simply because it's not a standard tuning used by millions of people (as is E9th and C6th). I only know two people using this A7th tuning setup, Basil Henriques and me. It's not complicated, just different. The Maxon CS-550 Stereo Chorus was originally commissioned by legendary Japanese Rock guitarist Hisato ""Char"" Takenaka. After 25 years of playing Char still hadn't found a chorus unit that satisfied his critical tastes, so he approached Maxon to build him one. Char had requested three specific points be addressed when designing this unit first that it should have less noise than a standard chorus; second that it should be extremely versatile; and lastly, that it had to be analog. The Maxon CS-550 offers an entire range of classic and unique new chorusing effects. Based around the Panasonic MN3207 (low voltage BBD IC, now out of production), the CS-550's Rate and Depth control can conjure every chorus texture from subtle to severe. The custom-tuned oscillator circuit can provide enough speed to authentically imitate rotary speaker cabinets and just the right amount of modulation for a lush vibrato that won't leave you feeling seasick.

The real secret behind the CS-550's amazing tone lies in the Delay Time control. The Delay Time control exhibits an inverse relation between the delay time and the frequency shift of the chorus - as the delay time increases, the frequency that is shifted decreases. This inverse relation creates ""double level"" and ""cancellation"" peaks and notches at particular frequency points to create an amazingly realistic, three-dimensional chorus effect. In addition, the Delay Time control is interactive with the Rate and Depth controls, so that if you increase the Depth, the Delay Time range increases, and if you increase the Speed, the Delay Time changes faster.

For even more versatility, the Maxon CS-550 features stereo outputs for mono, stereo, or inverted mono signal routing. A rear-mounted Mix Level control determines the level of effected signal vs. dry signal, making the CS-550 perfect for use with bass guitar as well. All the CS-550's features are kept dead quiet by a Signetics #NE571 compander in the circuit that eliminates unwanted noise.

Discontinued in 2003 due to shortages of the Panasonic BBD's that power it, the Maxon CS-550 was re-issued in 2005 in answer to overwhelming demand for the pedal. The reissue unit has an identical circuit to the original with the addition of a 4PDT switch for true bypass switching of both outputs.

It will forever change the way you think about chorus because we have developed a new type of chorus until now only available in expensive DAWs and in studios.  Not only is it tuned for guitar, but there are voices and modes created specifically for bass players including flanging and tremolo.  Lastly this tri-mode chorus offers internal switching for vintage and modern tones further doubling the amount of sounds you can get.

ADT: In the Seafoam Plus Chorus you get the automatic doubler that we developed in the revolutionary 30ms Double Tracker.  Our ADT chorus is what we call True Chorus because we create a second and third voice like singers in a choir.  Not only do they sing at different times, they sing at different pitches.  True Chorus.

Seafoam Mode: You guessed it, the all new Seafoam Plus Chorus, lush wide and with a very musical vibrato.  Gives you the lush sounds and tone of a vintage BBD analog chorus unit..  This is where you’ll find a typical chorus feature. This mode of the pedal has an LFO, the regularly cycling part you hear in most every other chorus unit.  It provides a classic tone that you expect and has become part of many classic tunes.  Set the rate for slow and depth for wide and enjoy a really spacious sounding chorus.  Roll the Mix Control all of the way up for Vibrato.  With the Space control as a Tone Control in this mode you can go from bright to vintage warmth, dialing in the perfect chorus.

Dual Chorus Mode: We created a frequency cross-over based dual chorus engine.  Imagine a dividing line that is centered on your high E-string.  Control the depth of chorus independently for highs and lows.  Craft the ultimate “Come As You Are” niravana of chorus tones.  Create a very deep throbbing chorus on the low end, and near perfect calm on the top end.  Or make the high-end and shimmer and waver while keeping the low end fixed!

Helping Daniel and Mick enjoy the Deco are Dan's Gibson Custom Shop R8 Les Paul and ’61 SG Junior. The pedal is running through a Lazy J J20 and a Mallard 18-watt Marshall clone.

We run through two core tones in this video - clean on all pickup selections, and high gain on the bridge pickups - with the BKP immediately following its Gibson counterpart.

The Nailbombs are notorious for their high gain applications, but don't think they're just for metal!  The cleans feel much more 'open' and breathy than the PAFs, allowing for additional clarity across the spectrum.

Obviously, you have to take into account that the PAFs are closed, and the BKPs are open, but that doesn't have too much of an impact.
