ITALIAN TARANTELLA - Tarantella Napoletana
Tarantella music is a folk dance music characterized by a fast upbeat tempo, usually in 6/8 time (sometimes 18/8 or 4/4), accompanied by tambourines (tamburello) and mandolin. It is among the most recognized of traditional Italian music, it names change according to the varies Italian region, Tammuriata in Campania (Naples - Napoli), Pizzica Pizzica in Lecce - Salento region, Sonu a ballu in Calabria. Tarantella is popular in Southern Italy and one of the symbols of the Italian culture in the world.
In the Salento's region of Italy the bite of a locally common type of spider called ""tarantula"" was popularly believed to be highly poisonous and to lead to a hysterical condition known as Tarantism. The stated belief in the 16th and 17th centuries were that the victims needed to engage in a frenzied dance to prevent death of the disease using very rhythmic music, this kind of music was known Tarantella.

ITALIAN MANDOLIN Mandolins evolved from the lute family in Italy during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and the deep bowled mandolin produced particularly in Naples became a common type in the nineteenth century. The original instrument was the mandore which evolved in the fourteenth century from the lute. The first evidence of modern steel-strung mandolins is from literature regarding popular Italian players who traveled through Europe teaching and giving concerts. Notable is Signor Leone and G. B. Gervasio who traveled widely between 1750 and 1810. This, with the records gleaned from the Italian Vinaccia family of luthiers in Naples, Italy, lead some musicologists to believe that the modern steel-strung mandolin was developed in Naples by the Vinaccia family. Gennaro Vinaccia was active circa 1710 to circa 1788, and Antonio Vinaccia was active circa 1734 to circa 1796. An early extant example of a mandolin is one built by Antonio Vinaccia in 1772 which resides at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, England. Another is by Giuseppe Vinaccia built in 1763, residing at the Kenneth G. Fiske Museum of Musical Instruments in Claremont, California. The earliest extant mandolin was built in 1744 by Gaetano Vinaccia. It resides in the Conservatoire Royal de Musique in Brussels, Belgium

The Donald Sinta Quartet, First Prize Winner of the 2013 CAG Victor Elmaleh Competition, has earned praise from audiences and critics alike for its committed performances, recordings, and distinctive repertoire.  Other competition successes include the Alice Coleman Grand Prize at the 2013 Coleman Chamber Music Competition and First Prize in the 2012 North American Saxophone Alliance Quartet Competition. 

The DSQ was featured for the world premiere performance of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer William Bolcom's Concerto Grosso for Saxophone Quartet and Band, joining the University of Michigan Symphony Band as a soloist for a tour through China and Los Angeles. Performances took place at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing, Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, and the Shanghai Conservatory. The quartet's subsequent recording of the work garnered praise: Audiophile Audition declared them ""superb musicians"" and American Record Guide called it ""the highlight of the album."" 

Upcoming engagements include festival appearances at Music from Angel Fire and the Rockport Chamber Music Festival, recitals at St. Bonaventure University and Market Square Concerts, and a concerto performance with the Dallas Wind Symphony. Recent highlights abroad are recitals in St. Andrews, Scotland, where the group was featured at the 16th World Saxophone Congress, and in Paris, France and Thessaloniki, Greece.  

The Quartet's repertoire is diverse, ranging from commissions by today's emerging composers to standards from the saxophone quartet literature to transcriptions by master composers such as Dvorak, Schubert, and Shostakovich. As advocates of new music, the DSQ commissions and premieres new works regularly and runs the National Saxophone Quartet Composition Competition, which selects two new quartet works from up-and-coming composers annually. 

The group is named for its mentor, legendary University of Michigan Saxophone Professor Donald Sinta. The DSQ 's members are Selmer-Paris Artists and perform on Selmer Paris Saxophones.

Nació como grupo en el año 2008, reuniendo el trabajo de tres mujeres emprendedoras, con una importante trayectoria dentro del arte musical, formando así, una de las pocas agrupaciones femeninas de son jarocho.

Caña Dulce y Caña Brava, sembrando alegría y pasión por la música, abriga con frecuencia el decir de trovadores y versadores, enriqueciendo sus presentaciones y mostrándose como una propuesta cálida e innovadora.

Actualmente, gracias a su trabajo y a la aceptación del público,  han sido invitadas a participar en diversos foros nacionales e internacionales.
 
Adriana Cao Romero, arpista reconocida internacionalmente, ha formado parte de grupos como Zacamandú, y Chuchumbé; asimismo, también ha sido partícipe de presentaciones junto a grandes talentos como El ""Negro"" Ojeda, don Arcadio Hidalgo, Antonio García de León, y la reconocida gambista, Hille Pearl.

Raquel Palacios Vega, viene de una familia sonera por tradición. Nieta de don Andrés Vega Delfín, uno de los requinteros más grandes de Veracruz. Desde los 12 años, acompañada de su voz,  la jarana y el zapateado, ha recorrido las llanuras de las regiones bajas de la cuenca del río San Juan; además de haber colaborado con grupos como Los Vega, Teterete y Los Utrera, habiéndose presentado tanto en México como en el extranjero.

Norma Carrillo, originaria del Distrito Federal, tuvo su formación musical en la escuela ""Vida y Movimiento"". Durante 17 años formó parte de La Orquesta Sinfónica Carlos Chávez. También ha incursionado en diferentes géneros musicales como el danzón, la charanga y el son jarocho tradicional.
