The tune has several versions and at least two of them are totally different tunes.  The one played here is, I think,  by far the most common in North America and is played in the key of Am.  It is a tune of Scottish origin (perhaps derived from an air by the great Neil Gow? -- not sure about that).  

The tune in this form commemorates the battle of Culloden Moor, when, on cold spring morning in 1746 the English Army surprised and massacred a Scottish highlander army and thereby ended the Jacobite Rebellion.  In years that followed thousands of apparently completely innocent Scotts were murdered by the English general the Duke of Cumberland (aka the Butcher) to punish them and to assure no more highlander rebellions would occur.  

But there is another version of ""Cold Frosty Morning"" which is an old tyme quadrille (6/8 time? or 3/4 time?) which was played in using an altered tuning and is in the key of D. The Fiddlers Companion attributes this tune to Stephen B. Tucker of Mississippi who started fiddling in late 1860's and was recorded for the Library of Congress in 1939. I plan to research this more. And of course the bluegrass folks have a ball with it.  Im playing it here at 90 bpm in 2/4 time.

Ob jung oder alt - nur die Stimme zählt: In vier „Blind Auditions"" lassen sich die drei Coaches mit dem Rücken zur Bühne von den Stimmen verzaubern. Sie drücken den Buzzer, um die jungen Talente für ihr Team zu gewinnen. Anschließend treten die jungen Sängerinnen und Sänger (8 bis 14 Jahre) in drei „Battle""-Shows jeweils in Dreier-Konstellationen an. Die Gewinner der „Battles"" ziehen direkt in das Finale ein. There are training courses in Inverness for these young pipers and drummers and the bands parade annually in Dingwall and Inverness. Friday 18 September 2009: in the afternoon the Massed Pipes and Drums Band is performing in the streets of the old heart of Arnhem. In the evening, about 7 pm they go in a slow march towards the Airborne square, to grace the real Market Garden Commemoration. You find everything about laying wreaths, speeches, national anthems of Poland, United Kingdom and The Netherlands (Mazurek Dabrowskiego, God save the queen, Wilhelmus), Dutch Hymn 293 Last Post, respectfull silence to the casualities and the reveille. The completion of the ceremony was at the Arnhem town hall, of which I taped the performance of the Massed Pipes and Drums Band.

I was in the process of shooting a demo on the DNA Amps 1350 Bass head and Lawrence Calloway (AKA Shaun Gotti) came into the store.  I was able to capture him trying out a few different Sadowsky Basses.  Shaun is a MONSTER player and I was lucky enough to capture some of his madness. The Basses he played are listed below.  DNA 1350 bass demo will soon follow.  Youre hearing a 50/50 split of DI & Mic.  At certain points in the demo, the mic was a few feet away from the cab, I wasnt prepared to start shooting when he got there.  I basically plugged him in and capture him groovin on the fly.

Another installment in our scale series, this week we're learning the mixolydian scale! From blues to funk to classical V7 chords, this is another really useful scale to know. We'll learn a few different shapes you can use to play the mixolydian mode, and then apply it to two most excellent bass lines.

A sidenote on ""The Chicken"": My favorite recording is from Jaco's ""Birthday Concert"" album, which is a killer album overall. The Hal Leonard transcription book that you see in the background has the version of the bass line from the ""Invitation"" album, however. Oh, musical trivia, how we adore you.

Taking the classic SG guitar shape, the Gibson SG standard bass features a solid mahogany body with a set-in neck, resulting in a beefy tone with warm sustain.  The neck on the SG standard bass features a rosewood fingerboard with 20 frets and dot inlays as well as a tilt back headstock, complete with the famous Gold Gibson logo.

Updated on a regular basis this series will teach you various beats using a variety of sounds. The ""simple"" beats are good for practicing new sounds or for newcomers to beatbox, the ""intermediate"" beats are a little faster or more complicated, while the ""challenging"" beats are for the more advanced beatboxer. ""Song covers"" are, obviously, covers of songs and can be any difficulty.
